A. Program Purpose:
1) An IAWP program whereby individual IAWP members and/or Affiliate Organizations "adopt" law enforcement officers from countries outside of North America who have limited resources, by paying for their membership in IAWP.
2) To promote mentoring and networking with members outside of North America.
3) To provide continued membership support and friendship to these law enforcement officers through correspondence.
B. Purpose of the Policy:
1) To establish guidelines for the management and operation of the "Adopt an Officer" Program under the IAWP Foundation.
C. Policy:
1) The “Adopt an Officer” Program policy shall be as stated in the IAWP Policy and Procedure Manual.
2) “Adopt an Officer” membership fees are covered under the Articles and Bylaws of the IAWP Foundation and are tax deductible under the statutes of the Internal Revenue Service.
3) Upon receipt of “Adopt an Officer” funds, the Treasurer shall issue a receipt to the sponsor and then forward the membership information to the Business Manager for processing.
4) “Adopt an Officer” funds received by the IAWP Foundation are not transferable to the IAWP. IAWP has agreed to absorb the membership expenses.
